🚆 About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Production Engineer to support the delivery of rail vehicle maintenance, modification, and overhaul programmes. This position plays a key role in ensuring production activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with engineering standards, customer requirements, and project timelines.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary engineering function and work closely with teams across operations, design, and procurement. The successful candidate will take ownership of process definition, technical documentation, materials support, and the continuous improvement of production performance.
🔧 Key Responsibilities
Develop, review, and implement production processes and technical instructions to support safe and efficient delivery of maintenance and modification programmes
Act as technical support to production teams across rolling stock and component-based projects
Support the integration of design changes into production, ensuring documentation, tooling, and materials are updated accordingly
Collaborate with engineering, operations, and supply chain to ensure accurate part referencing and material availability
Generate and manage structured Bills of Materials (BOMs) and ensure alignment with ERP data (e.g. SAP, Oracle, or equivalent)
Monitor production performance and contribute to improvement initiatives in line with company KPIs and industry standards
Ensure compliance with internal quality, safety, and engineering governance processes
Participate in risk assessments, technical reviews, and root cause analysis activities when required
Contribute to the overall delivery of engineering work packages on time and within budget
✅ Candidate Profile
Strong understanding of rail vehicle production, overhaul, or heavy engineering environments
Experience producing and managing technical documentation, BOMs, and work instructions
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, or Sage) and part numbering conventions
Excellent communication skills with a structured, detail-oriented approach
Able to operate in cross-functional environments and meet tight delivery timescales
A proactive mindset focused on safety, quality, and performance improvement
🎓 Qualifications & Desirable Attributes
Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (or equivalent experience)
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or working toward it) preferred
Knowledge of industry standards such as RIS, EN, or ISO relating to rolling stock maintenance
Experience working with structured engineering change and configuration management
Proficient in MS Office, engineering drawing tools, and document control platforms
